Your Most Important Priority? You.

Most of us walk around juggling a whole bundle of problems—work pressure, family demands, financial stress, the never-ending to-do list. On any given day, it can feel like you're being pulled in ten different directions. But here’s the thing.

When a serious health issue shows up—something existential—suddenly, you no longer have ten problems. You have one!

Everything else fades into the background. The bills, the meetings, the emails—all of it. Because when your health is at risk, nothing else matters more. And that’s why—above all else—looking after your health should be your top priority.

Looking After Yourself is NOT Selfish

Some people hear this and instinctively think, “That sounds selfish.” But, if your intention is to be your best—for your kids, your partner, your team, your community—then looking after yourself is the least selfish thing you can do.

Just like any asset in a business—machinery, buildings, even people—your body and mind need ‘down time’ for maintenance to function well. Without care, things break.

And here’s something we often overlook:
Assets that sit idle break down too.
A car that’s never driven will still end up with a flat battery. Your mind and body are no different.

Balance Is a Moving Target

We hear a lot about “balance” these days. Work-life balance, balanced diets, emotional balance. But here’s a truth I’ve come to accept:
Absolute balance doesn’t exist!

As much as we all want one, there’s no universal metric for a perfectly balanced life.

But just because balance can’t be measured, doesn’t mean it’s not worth pursuing.
If anything, we should chase it even more—if only to experience more moments of peace, more often.

Push and Pause

Personally, I’ve found that the times I feel most grounded are when I embrace both ends of the spectrum:

  • Doing challenging things—like exercising, learning, creating.
  • And making time to do absolutely nothing—sleeping deeply, meditating, unplugging - this is the maintenance ‘down time’ mentioned above.

Maybe it’s not about achieving perfect balance, but creating a rhythm that includes both effort and recovery - push and pause.

Perhaps it really is that simple.

So, look in the mirror and ask, “Am I looking after the one asset I truly can’t afford to lose?”

Because when all the other problems fall away, your health is the one you’ll want to have taken care of.

You’re not being selfish. You’re being responsible.
